The following report comes to us from team leader Janet with our team in Galveston, Texas:

We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day to set up our table alongside all the others there for the annual Walk for Hope in the prevention of suicide. There were many people there who were remembering the loss of a loved one, a child, a parent, a relative or friend who took their own life by suicide. Although there was a lot of sadness and tears, there was also hope, support and love for those who are suffering and in grief. I, myself, have experienced this when my brother-in-law committed suicide nine years ago. Although that struck our family hard, one of the saddest stories we heard was of a fourteen-year-old boy who hung himself because of a break-up with his girlfriend. If only he had realized that he still had a full life ahead of him and how much he was loved. So, the banner read, “Forever 14” and a photo of a bright, handsome young man with an amazing smile who was no longer with the family that loved him so much. Such a tragedy! There was also a wall of photos of those who had committed suicide and there were so many young faces. It was a hard day emotionally, talking with their families. We prayed with and for so many people while we were there giving them hope in an ever-loving God and giving them encouragement to seek Him out because of that love. I hope and pray that anyone who is feeling lost, in despair and contemplating suicide will reach out and get the help they need. Let’s continue to pray for this!
