There were over 50 evangelists from across the U.S. who attended the recent National Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis. A dozen evangelized throughout three days of the congress but the capstone was when over 40 of us evangelized during a large Eucharistic procession. People who attended the congress wore orange lanyards so we initially targeted those who didn’t wear a lanyard.

Unfortunately, we met many Protestant, anti-Catholic “evangelists”. Most of whom shouted at us over a loud speaker. Their approach became more of an “anti-witness”, pushing people away from Christ rather than leading closer to Him. I noted to other evangelists and bystanders that, when someone tries to dominate a conversation and “preach” to you, its obvious they do not care what you have to say. Seeing the lack of good fruit in their approach, it reinforced why we at SPSE follow a direct but non-confrontational approach focused on dialogue with the other person.

I teamed up with Anne, Tom, and a few others. Anne and Tom focused on families and children gathered near the procession route. Other evangelists offered prayer and medals to the police officers who guarded the route. Anne and I later prayed with a man in a wheelchair, praying that he would have the strength to overcome his challenges and setbacks. Shortly after, we prayed with a young Catholic woman who was recovering from knee surgery. Halfway through the procession, we gave away two backpacks full of sacramentals, spoke with over 100 people and prayed with many more,
