Baltimore, MD. Most Catholics are aware of the apparitions and messages of the Blessed Virgin Mary which came to three shepherd children at Fatima, Portugal, and the feast day of Our Lady of Fatima derived from it. Many Catholics and others are also aware of the associated “Miracle of the Sun,” which occurred at Fatima on October 13th, 1917, and was observed by tens of thousands of people.
The event of Fatima, and its message, is still important today. It warns of the judgment of God for the sin of mankind, and calls for prayer and fasting to stem the tide – to prevent war and the spread of soul-killing errors. It could seem that this message is even more relevant today than it was a hundred years ago!
On a recent gathering of SPSE teams in Baltimore, Maryland, one evangelist talked to a couple about the faith and the signs of the times – our dying culture, our need for God, and the events at Fatima. The couple was also concerned about the state of the world, and this discussion seemed to heighten their awareness of the problem. They exchanged contact information with the evangelist.
