Stories from the Street
From Father Mike, of the Rochester, New York Team:
At a past outing to the Geneva Farmers Market evangelizers had the opportunity to pray with a young woman who was returning home to Ohio. She had come to Geneva to be with her birth mother, but the relationship did not turn out well. She was heading back to live with her former boyfriend’s mother, a situation she said was stable. Armed with a rosary we said farewell to her as she boarded the bus in front of the Farmers Market.
Later, evangelists had the opportunity to minister to a young man who was homeless. Originally from Buffalo, he found himself in Geneva and admitted to a drinking problem. He was given some food both at the market and at Our Lady of Peace, and attended the 12:10 Mass.
Please pray for these two people that they may find their way home to the Lord and know the power of God’s love!
In more recent outings to the market, we started later so as to meet a different group of people. We gave out many rosaries and had several wonderful encounters with people: Isaiah, a recovering addict who spent time in jail and who is reading the biblical book of Ezekiel with his wife and wanted to join us; Jeannette who wanted help dealing with her anger issues and was interested in baptism; and a young woman with bright yellow hair who knows the Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary. We said we’d bring her a gold star for her forehead next week to which she replied: “My last name is Starr!”
Praised be Jesus Christ! Father Mike is a longtime evangelizer with SPSE. His story is included in our book, “Catholic Street Evangelization: Stories of Conversion and Witness.” Join our efforts to bring the teachings of Our Lord Jesus Christ to all who will listen to it!
